Talk of Fame Network
This week our Hall of Fame guys – Ron Borges, Rick Gosselin and Clark Judge – landed an exclusive interview with Minnesota Vikings’ running back Adrian Peterson, who has said little since returning to the NFL but tells the Talk of Fame Network he hopes to rush for over 2,000 yards at least twice more in his career and to last until 37 at a position known to cause early retirement.
“I’m 30, and my plan is to go for 2,000 yards more than once before I hang up the cleats,’’ Peterson said.
He also talks about the death of the running back in the NFL and why he believes that’s about to change before naming his all-time top three running backs – none of whom are him.
“I have to respect my elder,’’ Peterson said. “Jim Brown. Just because. He’s the guy everyone chased.’’
The Talk of Fame Network also celebrates “Breast Cancer Awareness Month’’ with the first of a series of four interviews this month with women in pro football. The boys begin with former Oakland Raiders’ executive Amy Trask, who now is featured on CBS’ “The Other Pregame Show’’ and is writing a memoir on her years working in the NFL.
The working title of her book is “You Negotiate Like A Girl,’’ a phrase she says was once thrown at her in the middle of a contract negotiation. That title speaks to the difficulties she faced and her ability to overcome them as she recalls the first time she walked into an NFL owners’ meeting with her boss, Al Davis, and a “a very noticeable silence” greeted her.
“I never spent one moment thinking about my gender,’’ Trask adds. “I did my job.’’
So do your Hall of Fame guys, who debate the week’s events, including the firing of Joe Philbin by Miami, the rise of 40-year-old Matt Hasselbeck in Indianapolis and a hot debate over which 4-0 team these guys aren’t buying. Then there’s Hall-of-Fame voter Geoff Hobson, who tells us why this year’s Cincinnati Bengals might be a legitimate playoff threat.
In the weekly “Borges or Bogus’’ segment, Ron questions the Buffalo Bills’ penchant for penalties and head coach Rex Ryan’s addle-headed reaction to it, while Clark makes the Hall-of-Fame case for former Colts’ running back Edgerrin James, who is a candidate for Canton again this year.
All that plus the weekly Two-Minute Drill, where our hosts answer 20 questions of the moment, and, in honor of Columbus Day, name their choices of the most important discoveries in NFL history. Ever heard of Eddie Cochems? You will this week.
